Gambler's Anonymous and GAM-ANON For a GA and GAM-ANON meeting schedule in the Maryland area, click here. What is Gamblers Anonymous? Gamblers Anonymous (GA) is a self-help organization for men and women of all ages. Their purpose is to bond together to share their experiences, strengths, and hopes with each other in order to overcome their problem with compulsive gambling. All people who come to Gamblers Anonymous are welcome as long as they meet one criteria: the desire to stop gambling. In order to accomplish its goals, GA follows the principles of the 12 Steps of Recovery. These principles have been utilized by thousands of others who also hoped to overcome gambling addiction. While the principles of the 12 Steps of Recvoery are spiritual in their nature, Gamblers Anonymous is not a religious program. When someone enters the Gamblers Anonymous program, they are welcomed with open arms and minds. A new member of Gambler's Anonymous can be certain that he is amongst a group of people who have shared his expeirences with problem gambling and are there to help him recover. For more info about Gamblers Anonymous, visit their website at www.gamblersanonymous.org or call our helplines at 1-800-GAMBLER. What is GAM-ANON? Gam-Anon is a support group for the spouse, family, or friends of compulsive gamblers. It is a place for those who are frightened by the gambling habits of someone they love. In Gam-Anon, these people can share their experiences with one another in an environment of people who understand. It is a place for the families of compulsive gamblers to relieve anxiety by being in a group of people who understand. |
